Gruff Junction Cheese

gruffjunction3Created in 2006, Gruff Junction goat’s cheeses are hand-made locally – just half an hour from Christchurch, on the banks of Lake Ellesmere. The ‘stars’ of the show – 250 white Saanen goats – are farmed in Greenpark. 


Ev Moorhead has long held a passion for goats, but it wasn’t until 2001 that his dream of goat farming became a reality. Starting out with just 4 does, the Greenpark Farm herd now numbers around 250 milking goats and these are milked between September and March.

The goats spend their days grazing the pastures and trying to stay out of trouble!  Yes, it’s true that goats are very inquisitive animals and if there’s a way through any fence, they will surely find it! The goats are well looked after; their diet is supplemented by top-quality meadow hay and a home-produced ‘museli’, as well as by organic mineral supplements to aid the immune system.  And when bad weather rolls in, they don’t need asking twice if they would like to shelter in the cosy loafing barn!
